do take longer are going to be fixed to make them take less time

Make global http timeout longer than most operations
...
We have a few long running operations today (sync=true, watch) that
exceed the original default http.Server timeout. We should set the
timeout to a high enough limit that more granular controls can be
implemented.

note linux dependency in local getting-started-guide

While the linux dependency is obvious with a moment's thought, some
users (especially on *nix) might plow ahead before realizing their
system isn't supported. This adds a requirements section and points
users in the direction of guides more likely to work for them.
